The Square Mile

Explore Roman Londinium and the Ancient Heart of the Capital

Experience 2,000 years of London History

In this 3-hour walking tour, published historian and expert tour guide Erik Jampa Andersson will lead you through 2,000 years of London history, from its humble beginnings in the first century CE to its modern identity as one of the world’s great cultural, financial, and political capitals.

This tour focuses on the City of London — known as the ‘Square Mile’ — which served for many centuries as the bustling heart of the city. Now principally a business and financial district (with surprisingly few inhabitants!), the City has witnessed no shortage of immense and dramatic changes throughout the centuries. This tour tells its story. From Roman temples to monumental churches, and from magic stones to ancient pubs, this tour will take you from London’s founding into the present day, providing an unparalleled introduction to this under-appreciated district.

For those who would like a fully private and bespoke adventure, we also offer this experience as a private tour, which can be booked for groups of up to 5 participants. For those who book our standard experience, please be aware that you may be joined by up to six other guests.
