Dulshuk Pendant
This bronze pendant features Tibeto-Mongolian pakpa script on the front side, reading dulshuk (brTul Zhugs)་, roughly translated as “disciplined engagement.” This principal concept in the Tibetan Chöd tradition describes the profound activity of going to places that scare us in order to transform fear into the energy of liberation.
While explanations and translations vary, this concept can be nicely encapsulated in Padampa Sangye’s very first teaching to Machig Labdrön, which is written on the back of the piece in Tibetan uchen script. Sarah Harding translates this verse as:
”Expose your hidden faults.
Overcome hesitations.
Carry what you dare not.
Cut your fetters.
Give up attachments.
Keep to haunted places (or sensitive/difficult places, nyensa).
Know that beings are as vast as the sky.
In haunted places, seek the buddha within yourself.”
